Postnatal Fitness

AMANDA, YOU LOOK SO HEALTHY AND ARE IN AMAZING SHAPE! HOW DID YOU ADAPT YOUR FITNESS AND HEALTH ROUTINE AFTER HAVING YOUR DAUGHTER?

My body recovered quickly after Harper was born and I believe a lot of that came down to continuing exercising right the way thorough my pregnancy. But I still gave my body time to heal by just doing pelvic floor exercises and going walks for the first 6 weeks. After that I returned to my evening exercise classes 3x a week starting gentle. I was lucky to have an instructor who had knowledge of how to build my training back up. Over the months I gradually increased the weights I was lifting and was able to add in more abdominal exercise and reincorporate plyo. I think the mental benifits of exercise is just important as physical. I started yogabellies as soon as the classes started I loved the classes.

WHAT DID YOU GAIN FROM ATTENDING YOGABELLIES FOR MUM & BABY CLASSES?

Katie is an amazing instructor I learned so much about breathing techniques and movements that helps strengthen your body. The fact you can tone your inner core muscles just through breathing techniques amazes me. I loved how Harper was included throughout she really seemed to enjoyed the movements and songs.

WHAT IS YOUR TOP TIP FOR NEW MUMS GETTING INTO A ROUTINE AFTER HAVING A BABY?

I find Booking group workout classes ahead works best for myself. It’s easier to have motivation to go when you have previously commitment through booking. Find something you enjoy, yoga is an amazing way to get back into exercise and include your baby.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOVE IN THE CLASS AND WHAT DO YOU THINK HARPER’S FAVOURITE WAS?

I enjoyed them all, I would say tree pose was a favourite as I could see the progression in my stability each week, I’ve never had great balance so it was great to improve it. Harper loved ‘wind the bobbin up’. I sing it to her and do the movements with her most days it always puts a huge smile on her face.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO A MUM WHO WAS LACKING CONFIDENCE OR WORRIED ABOUT ATTENDING/ TRYING SOMETHING NEW?

For me the thought of starting something new is always the worst part (what if I can’t keep up/ don’t have the ability/ don’t fit in with the group etc) Taking yourself outside your comfort zone is scary. But with groups like Katie’s everyone is made to feel so welcome by both herself and the other mums it would be a great class to get your confidence up.

LASTLY, HAVE YOU MET SOME FRIENDS IN THE GROUP AND WILL YOU KEEP IN TOUCH?

All the mums were lovely and I hope to keep in touch. I’m hoping to see some of their friendly faces at other baby groups.

THANKS SO MUCH AMANDA! I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU AND HARPER AGAIN IN FUTURE :) X
